Proposed Cuts Will Eliminate Health Care for Missourians:

The U.S. Senate will soon consider a reckless budget plan that includes the biggest cuts to Medicaid ever.

These Medicaid cuts will take health coverage away from 170,000 Missourians – including working families, older adults, people with disabilities or serious health problems, and children.

Medicaid helps keep Missourians healthy so they can work, succeed in school, and contribute to their communities. Making it harder for them to get and keep their coverage makes it harder for them to work and makes families and communities sicker.
When Missourians are uninsured and can’t afford care, their health problems become more serious and expensive – and all Missourians end up paying the price through increased health care costs and insurance premiums.

Rural Missourians – including those with private health insurance – will be particularly harmed by the changes:

Medicaid is critical to the entire healthcare system in rural areas. Hospitals, health clinics, and other providers rely on Medicaid payments to keep their doors open.
Rural Missourians would especially struggle to keep up with the administrative burden of work requirements, due to a lack of reliable internet, job opportunities or transportation.
Many of these providers operate on such thin margins that cuts to Medicaid could force them to shut down altogether.
That leaves those communities without senior or maternity care, nursing homes, emergency rooms, and even basic care.
People would have to travel hours just to get the care they need, and in a crisis, that delay could be deadly.

Senator Hawley has voiced opposition to some types of Medicaid cuts, but he has expressed support for others. Let him know that these cuts would still eliminate coverage for Missourians and make life harder for working working families.

Medicaid cuts made through red tape and barriers, like work requirements, are still cuts that will cause people to lose coverage, including working Missourians, people with disabilities or serious health problems, children, and older adults.

That will increase costs for all Missourians and put rural health care at risk.

Thank you for raising the alarm to protect Medicaid for Missourians who rely on it, and I urge you to oppose these proposed cuts that would also eliminate health care for working families and make their lives harder.
